Another British institution bites the dust

Today we see the end of nearly a 200 year old establishment known and loved by many. Cadbury, a well established family business waves goodbye to Britain and heads to the US. cadbury2

With so many British brands leaving the country it makes you ask “what is left in Britain, and where has the ‘Great’ in Great Britain gone?”

Corus (British Steel), ICI, Land Rover, Jaguar, Lotus, Manchester United Football Club and Abbey National are just a handful of companies that were once an important part of the UK economy that we can’t lay claim to anymore.  What was once a world leader, Britain appears to be turning into ‘takeover Britain’, still, we can all look forward to Dairylea filled Creme Eggs this Easter.

I’d actually go further and say that “Great” Britain is rapidly turning into “Grate” Britain…

It’s not bad enough that we get hit by the deepest recession in living memory, or that we are the last of the developed countries to exit from it, but in the process we are losing what little industry we have left to rebuild our economy.
Gradually we are farming off, offshoring, selling and even giving away everything that could help restore this country back to greatness.

It’s also good to know that there are a few of us die-hard Brits still out there willing to brave the recession and the offshoring to build a British company, with British employees, providing British expertise to other British companies.

I feel a chorus coming on:
    “Rule Britania…Britania rules the waves……dum..dum..di…dum…..etc”
